Aetherbound Court

Character Spotlight

🦉 Professor Thaddeus Gearwing — The Clockwork Owl

🦉 Professor Gearwing

Archivist of the Aetherbound Court

Species: Owl | Faction: The Lore keepers |                              Magical Affinity: Chronomancy (time manipulation)

Professor Archibald Gearwing is the Court’s greatest mind and most eccentric scholar. Perched among towering shelves of brass-bound books and clockwork globes, His feathers are always dusted with ink, his brass goggles forever slipping down his beak as he mutters equations about time, flight, and fate. Gifted in the art of Chronomancy, Gearwing can briefly slow or rewind moments, allowing him to glimpse futures—or study past mistakes. But his talent comes at a cost: meddling with time leaves fractures that only he can sense. When he’s not deciphering prophecies or repairing arcane devices, he tutors the young of Aetherbound in the mechanics of magic, believing that every cog in the great machine of destiny has its place. Some whisper that without him, the Court would lose not just its knowledge, but its very foundation.

The Beginning of the Aetherbound Court

Before the steam engines whispered and the brass wings turned, the world of Aetherbound was wild—an endless expanse of cloud-shrouded skies, ancient forests, and shimmering orbs of raw magic. The Aether flowed through everything—earth, air, and living creature alike. But when humankind’s machines began to pierce the veil, the balance faltered. The skies grew restless, and magic began to fracture into strange currents. From this rift rose the Aetherbound Court, a secret alliance of enchanted creatures sworn to protect the world’s hidden harmony—those who could still hear the old hum of magic beneath the hiss of steam. High above in floating citadels and below in gear lit burrows, they gathered—each sworn by feather, fur, and oath to guard the six Orbs of Aetherbound: Flame, Storm, Shadow, Verdant, Tide, and Ether light. Their realms shimmer between worlds, unseen by most. Those who stumble into the Steam wilds often return changed—if they return at all.

I started Aetherbound court because of my love of animals and antiques. Each animal has there own personality and character and this comes through the portraits. I also collect antiques and so I thought of combining my two loves together and then then story began.
